“If your everyday practice is to open to all your emotions, to all the people you meet, to all the situations you encounter, without closing down, trusting that you can do that – then that will take you as far as you can go. And then you’ll understand all the teachings that anyone has ever taught” Pema Chodron
Mindfulness can help with emotional and physical stress, anxiety, depression and chronic pain. Not by rejecting these experiences but by learning to be present with them in a consciously spacious and kindly way - that is mindfully. It is not a quick fix nor a miracle cure, it does take work on our part, but what it offers is real and lasting, and of benefit to others.
The Bath and Bristol Mindfulness Meditation (MBSR and MBCT) Courses - including the Jon Kabat-Zinn Eight Week Mindfulness Course, Deepening Mindfulness and Mindfulness for Health Professionals courses are facilitated in Bath by Philippa Vick and myself.
The Eight Week Mindfulness (MBSR/MBCT) Course – This course teaches how to being mindfully present with our thoughts, emotions and body sensations supported by attitude of kindness and compassion. These combined can really help us be a healthy human being and taken further, much further, can reveal our deepest potential.
The course usually consists of one class lasting two and a half hours, once a week for eight weeks, and one whole (week end) day between the fifth and sixth session. You are also encouraged to practice daily the mindfulness skills taught on the course. In this way, by the end of the course, you will hopefully have created the foundation of a mindfulness meditation practice. To enable this the course also provides a Course Work Book and two CD’s containing guided mindfulness meditations and, as necessary, access between sessions to the course facilitators.
Each class introduces mindfulness meditations - mindfulness of body sensations, sound, breath, emotions and thoughts - and the attitudes that best support these practices - kindness and compassion. Evenings are a mix of practising mindfulness together, learning new mindfulness skills and reviewing the previous weeks daily mindfulness practice.
Mindfulness training for health professionals – This course is for counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and others who are interested in using mindfulness in their clinical work. The course consists of ten evenings divided into two sets of five attended fortnightly. The first set entirely focuses on the mindfulness skills necessary for us to authentically pass mindfulness on and the second set on mindfulness within the clinical setting.

What do I do if I am interested?
Either contact me, Nigel Wellings or Philippa Vick, by phone or e-mail to arrange a free private individual meeting to see whether the course is for you at this time. This first meeting, prior to the course, will take about 20 minutes and it is an opportunity to tell you a bit more about the course, to answer any questions that you may have and to explore together whether the approach will be beneficial to you. There is no obligation to continue or even make a decision at this point.
